Blue Marlin SeasonGulf Coast
Blue Marlin season in the Gulf peaks Jun–Sep: that's when at least half of the 6 ports we track are at peak. July and August are the hottest, with 6 of 6 ports at peak. Fishable somewhere in the Gulf Mar–Nov.
Bars: share of the 6 ports at peak (orange) and fishable (blue) each month. Number = ports at peak.
Summer at the deepwater rigs is the Gulf blue marlin game. Loop Current eddies spin off the main current and push fish to the surface from June through October; find a 500-fathom bottom break near a temperature change and you are in the game. Venice, Destin, Orange Beach, Port Aransas, and South Padre all have access to the deep Gulf — the difference is how far you have to run to find the right water. A standard trolling spread of ballyhoo and skirted lures over a productive color change is the starting point.

Where this comes from
Every window here is rolled up from the port calendars on this site, and each port page cites its sources. Peak means the port's sources call it the best stretch; fishable means the fish are around but not at their best. Water temperature and bait move these windows every year. Check state and federal regulations before you leave the dock. Not legal advice.
