Gulf tarpon run the passes and beachfronts from May through September. These are not the finicky sight-fishing fish of the Florida Keys — they are big, aggressive, and willing to hit cut bait or large jigs. Venice, Orange Beach, and Destin all see solid runs; fish stage in the passes on incoming tides and move through in schools that make June and July feel like a conveyor belt. A 130-pound fish that explodes out of a pass on a cut mullet is a different experience than anything else in inshore fishing.
