Sailfish SeasonCarolinas

Sailfish season off the Carolinas peaks Jul–Sep: that's when at least half of the 2 ports we track are at peak. July and August are the hottest, with 2 of 2 ports at peak. Fishable somewhere off the Carolinas May–Oct.

Bars: share of the 2 ports at peak (orange) and fishable (blue) each month. Number = ports at peak.

Sailfish show off the Carolinas in summer as part of the Gulf Stream billfish run. Charleston and Hilton Head are the primary access points, with June through August being the prime window when the stream swings within range. It is not the concentrated fishery that Florida offers, but the fish are there. The best days come when the stream pushes to within 20 miles and the current edge is loaded with bait.

Where this comes from

Every window here is rolled up from the port calendars on this site, and each port page cites its sources. Peak means the port's sources call it the best stretch; fishable means the fish are around but not at their best. Water temperature and bait move these windows every year. Check state and federal regulations before you leave the dock. Not legal advice.
